Forward Julián Álvarez has admitted he is unhappy at Man City, hinting at a potential departure amid reports that he might leave the club this summer.

Álvarez has not yet joined his club Manchester City as the 24-year-old is currently focused on competing with the Argentina U23 team at the 2024 Olympics. At this point, there have been speculations that Álvarez has turned down a four-year contract offer from The Citizens to join another team.

This was somewhat reflected in an interview with DSports Radio, where the Argentine star spoke about his future. Álvarez said: “I haven’t had time to think about my plans. Last season, I was one of the players who played the most for the team.

But it is true that not playing in some important matches was not pleasant. I will have time to consider my decision. At the moment, I haven’t had the time to think it over thoroughly. After the Olympics, I will take time to reflect on what I truly want.”

Indeed, Álvarez’s comments align with his situation last season, where he was frequently involved in games for Man City. The 24-year-old played a total of 54 matches across all competitions, scoring 19 goals and providing 13 assists, contributing significantly to the team’s fourth consecutive Premier League title.

However, the 2022 World Cup champion was not utilized in key matches, notably the FA Cup final, where he was merely a backup for Erling Haaland and had only about 30 minutes of playtime.

Currently, Álvarez is attracting interest from top European clubs, with Atlético Madrid being one of the most enthusiastic, as they are in need of a replacement for Álvaro Morata, who moved to AC Milan earlier this summer.

For now, Álvarez is fully focused on preparing for the final group stage match of the 2024 Olympics against U23 Ukraine.
