Cole Palmer spoke out in an interview on the first day of joining the England national team camp in preparation for Euro 2024 in Germany.
“I’m really excited to be here in Germany as part of the England squad. There’s so much talent in the team, everyone can see that. It’s a great honor for me to represent the national team, and we have fantastic players. Hopefully, we can bond together as a team and strive to win the tournament. The fans are amazing, and I just want to make them proud,” Palmer told the Daily Mirror.
“I know some of the senior players from Manchester City and Chelsea, and I’m delighted to be in the squad with them. It feels different from being with the under-21s like I was.”
“I’ve only been here (the England training center) twice before, so it’s still quite new to me. I hope being selected among so many talented players will help me settle in quickly. It’s a strong feeling, having top players and experts who have been part of the national team and major tournaments for many years. It’s incredible.”
Palmer’s form at Chelsea in the 2023/24 season was outstanding, scoring 25 goals across all competitions and shining brightly as the standout star for The Blues after a challenging season.
The former Manchester City player also admitted that when asked about his most memorable match, Palmer said, “I enjoyed the game against Manchester United, perhaps just for the pure emotion of it. The match against Everton at home, the game at Old Trafford. I’ve had some really notable games.”
In the England setup, competition for places will undoubtedly be fierce, but Palmer will hope to play the biggest role possible at Euro 2024.
England has two warm-up matches before Euro with Bosnia & Herzegovina and Iceland in early June before Southgate finalizes his squad of 26 for Germany. England’s opening match is against Serbia on June 16th.
