Andre Onana, the goalkeeper, said that they had a bad season, even if Man Utd win the FA Cup.

With an 8th place finish in the Premier League this season, Manchester United virtually have no chance to participate in European competitions next season. The only remaining path for Erik ten Hag’s squad now is to defeat their rivals Manchester City in the FA Cup final, thereby securing a spot in the Europa League for the next season.

The FA Cup trophy would perhaps serve as consolation for Man Utd fans, who have witnessed their beloved team’s failures multiple times this season. However, goalkeeper Andre Onana believes that even if they were to win the title, it would still be considered an irredeemable season for Manchester United.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper shared: “We know how strong Manchester City are. They are currently the best team and we have lost to them twice already. But we still have motivation. Beating them alone won’t make it a successful season. For Manchester United, I don’t think winning the FA Cup is enough. But it will make everything look better. We’re there to win.”

When asked about Coach Ten Hag, the former Inter star expressed empathy, stating that serious injuries had significantly impacted the season’s results. Onana added, “I’m not here to support Ten Hag because he’s capable of defending himself. But he’s a really good person, a positive coach, and his tactics are also very good. If we had a full squad, things might have been different for him, for us, for the team, and the fans.”

Onana also defends Marcus Rashford, the forward who has struggled greatly this season. Onana asserts: “We’re talking about the same player. So now he’s a bad player? No. You can have a bad season or a bad start, but the most important thing is how you finish the season.

“For me, Rashford is one of the best players in the world. But he’s going through a tough time. Not just him, but myself and the team as well. However, he will bounce back. I know my striker will score important goals for the team. Hopefully, against Man City, he will score two goals and Man Utd win the FA Cup.”

The FA Cup final between Man Utd and Man City will take place today, May 25th.
