Manchester United have reached an agreement with Lille to sign 18-year-old French starlet Leny Yoro, beating out Real Madrid in the race for his signature.
Manchester United have officially completed the signing of young defender Leny Yoro from Lille, marking their second summer transfer deal.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the Red Devils have agreed on a transfer fee of €50 million plus €12 million in add-ons. Yoro has completed the first part of his medical and will sign a contract until June 2029, with an option to extend for another year.
This transfer marks a significant coup for Manchester United in the transfer market, having outpaced Real Madrid in securing the young French talent. Yoro, despite being only 18 years old, has shown impressive form at Lille and is considered one of the most promising young defenders in Europe today.
The acquisition of Yoro underscores Manchester United’s clear strategy of investing in the future. The young player will join a defensive lineup already featuring names like Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire. This competition promises to accelerate Yoro’s development and contribute to the team’s success in the upcoming seasons.
This deal also reflects Manchester United’s determination to strengthen their squad after an underwhelming season. Earlier, they signed forward Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna for £36 million. However, their ambitions appear to extend further.
Sources indicate that Manchester United are still targeting another central defender if they can raise funds through player sales. Two names mentioned are Everton’s Jarrod Branthwaite and Bayern Munich’s Matthijs de Ligt. Both deals could face challenges due to high transfer fee demands from their respective clubs.
Nevertheless, significant spending poses financial challenges for the club. Manchester United will need to carefully manage their budget and may need to sell some players to comply with Premier League financial regulations.
With the completion of the Leny Yoro deal, Manchester United fans can expect a promising 2024/2025 season. The blend of experience and youth in their squad could see the Red Devils compete strongly in both the Premier League and European competitions in the coming season.
