Prince William encouraged the England national team ahead of their journey to Germany for Euro 2024.
Addressing the team before departing for Deutschland, Prince William, who is also the FA President, jokingly said to the players (via Mirror):
“Hey guys, on the way here I was thinking, what can I say to help? I was running to school with the kids and I thought, ‘What should I say to the England team?'”
“The best advice I can give is to eat twice as much as you usually do. Then, I imagined you running around the field with a big belly and injuries. Maybe listen to my little brother’s advice and remember to eat with a pinch of salt.”
In a more serious tone, reminding the England team of the intensity of Euro, Prince William added:
“Euro 2024 is a big deal. You’ve all had a great season, I’ve seen each of you perform brilliantly this season.”
“As some of you may know, the Euro tournament is very tough and demands more effort than you’ve given. You’ve had a long season and I’ll ask you to keep pushing forward.”
The England team will kick off their Euro 2024 campaign against Serbia on June 17, followed by Denmark on June 21 and Slovenia on June 26. The Three Lions will strive to secure victories to ensure qualification to the knockout stages.
Their pre-tournament friendlies have been tumultuous, defeating Bosnia and Herzegovina 3-0 but unexpectedly losing 0-1 to Iceland at Wembley in front of their fans. Nevertheless, England hopes to leave those setbacks behind and move forward with consecutive wins in Germany.
