Due to his immense love for Barcelona, coach Xavi declined 12 million euros compensation payout from his contract termination to support the club in resolving its financial crisis.

Just a few days after the conclusion of the 2023/24 season, Barcelona has been working tirelessly to prepare for the upcoming season.

On May 27, it was reported that Hansi Flick, believed to be the new head coach, was present at the club’s office to finalize his appointment with Blaugrana.

But another significant meeting took place at Barcelona’s offices that day. Xavi Hernandez’s representatives were also there to negotiate the termination of his contract after the club decided to part ways with him.

According to Mundo Deportivo, Xavi turned down a substantial compensation package, estimated between €11-12 million. He chose to forego this amount because his decision to lead Barca was solely driven by his pure love for the club. Xavi was willing to leave this money behind to assist Barcelona in overcoming their financial difficulties.

However, Xavi ensured that his staff and assistants would receive their severance packages as per their agreements. He requested that Barcelona pay a total of €3 million to his eight-person team, which was agreed upon during his contract extension.

Clearly, Xavi’s decision to waive a large compensation sum will significantly benefit Barcelona, especially during a time when the club is grappling with financial challenges.

This once again demonstrates Xavi’s respect and deep affection for the Catalan club, despite recent contentious decisions made by club president Joan Laporta regarding him in recent weeks.

It’s understood that Xavi’s representative, led by Fernando Solanos, and Barcelona have nearly finalized the terms of their parting ways, and an official announcement from the Catalan club is expected soon regarding this matter.
